February 14th 2018 I dropped my 17 year old off at school and took a picture of him holding a 5 foot tall teddy bear and a dozen roses that he was about to give to his girlfriend. As I drove away I thought to myself what a lucky girl. A few min later I got a text alert that there was a school shooting, my heart dropped and I pulled the car over to look at the message. It wasn’t my sons school it was Parkland in Broward County Florida. I started to cry, I cried because I thought of the picture I had just taken and that 17 other mothers might have taken that same picture and it would have been the last time they ever saw their child. I felt hopeless, sad and determined. I was going to do something about it. I was no longer sending my child into school with nothing to protect himself with.
